Bryanna Porter
Mrs. Porter is in her first year as director of orchestras at Tays Junior High School, in Katy ISD, in Katy, TX. Mrs. Porter received her Bachelor of Music and Texas teacher certification from Texas Tech University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts where she studied violin with Dr. John Gilbert. While attending Texas Tech Bryanna performed with many Texas and New Mexico orchestras including the Abilene Philharmonic, the Southwest Symphony, and the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, to name a few. Mrs. Porter began her teaching career in 1999 as a private violin instructor in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Prior to beginning work at Tays Junior High, Mrs. Porter was the director of orchestras at West Memorial Junior High, followed by work at WoodCreek Junior High, both in Katy ISD.
During the six years the WoodCreek Junior High Orchestras were under the direction of Mrs. Porter, the ensembles consistently received top honors including multiple Sweepstakes Awards at the Texas UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest, Outstanding in Class, and Overall Outstanding Orchestra at Choice Music Festival events. In December of 2013, the WoodCreek Junior High Chamber Orchestra performed at The Midwest Clinic. In 2006 Bryanna and her husband Matthew were responsible for founding Katy ISD’s Junior High Orchestra Camp to provide enrichment opportunities for Katy ISD string players over the summer months.
Mrs. Porter is a member of TODA, TMEA, Mu Omicron, and TMAA. In addition to her teaching, Bryanna is an active judge and clinician as well as an active freelance violinist in the Houston area. Mrs. Porter lives in Katy TX, with her husband Matthew and their three daughters.
